E-commerce is also growing in Chile: How to adapt to this new scenario in the Covid-19 era?

The health crisis arising from Covid-19 has highlighted the importance of e-commerce logistics and the management of reverse logistics, two approaches to growth coming closer and closer together with the growing need to increase the plant storage capacity of brands operating online. And, as has happened in the rest of the world, the evolution of the electronic market in Chile in recent months has been meteoric – sales through this channel increased between March and April by 145% in the country*- which has allowed us to show the sector the need to place their focus on continuous improvement of the supply chain from start to finish. An essential step to achieve the keenly sought-after “optimal customer experience”.

This abrupt growth in e-commerce has favoured the commitment to digitisation and the consolidation of online commerce as the fundamental sales channel right now and in the future. Because, with physical stores on standby or with a reduced capacity due to the health crisis, companies have seen the potential of e-commerce and are already starting to make moves to position themselves in a sector that will guarantee their business continuity, regardless of their size or sector. And here logistics plays a key role.

Logisfashion Chile has adapted to this scenario quickly, in order to offer our clients, fashion and lifestyle brands, an essential logistics service that has allowed them to guarantee a good shopping experience to consumers using this channel, an increasingly rising value for brands. In this way, our subsidiary in this country has experienced a great metamorphosis which has allowed us to address this rapid growth of omnichannel logistics and, in particular, e-commerce.

Our logistics centre in Chile was inaugurated in 2017 and has a top-level infrastructure and 14,500 m2 of surface area. It is located in ENEA, an industrial and business area with a strategic position, being located at the junction of the roads that lead to Santiago, the airport and the port of Valparaiso.

The Chilean subsidiary has had the general management of Tomás Cox since the beginning of the year, a professional with a great track record and expertise in the logistics sector, which is leading the team successfully to enhance commercial growth and further refine the supply chain in order to respond to the current reality, which poses challenges that must be solved in an efficient and timely manner.

This transformation and evolution comes from the omnichannel nature of the supply chain, to be able to have a unique, integrated stock, and a warehouse and order management system that allows us to have visibility over the entire inventory in order to meet the demands of the consumer using the most convenient and optimal channel.

By centralising the client’s stock in our Logisfashion distribution centres, we have seen that the brands that work with a “pull” system and not a “push” system have had greater responsiveness in diverting their product to the online channel during this unusual situation we are in.

Latin America, an essential region for Logisfashion

Logisfashion has been present in the Americas since 2007 (Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Panama and the USA). The Latin American region is especially important to us and this is demonstrated by the multiple milestones that we have achieved in the different countries where we operate throughout these years: the opening of a new centre with 32,000m2 in Mexico or the integration of Texlog, a Colombian textile raw material operator, which has strengthened the operation and provides the company with the know-how in 100% textile logistics processes and special services for raw materials.

With this, we want to respond to all the needs of our clients, becoming their trusted logistics partner, since we have the capacity and flexibility to provide all kinds of services in a sector as specialised as that of fashion and lifestyle. Especially in the face of unforeseen and unusual situations, such is the case with the health crisis arising from Covid-19.
