Chile tackles the great logistical challenges posed by eCommerce

Chile has become a market that increasingly attracts investments from national and international companies, due to the boom that e-commerce is having in this Latin American country, where the number of digital buyers has grown rapidly in recent years, reaching an estimated 12 million users in 2021. According to Statista, the B2C online channel will account for 20% of total retail sales in 2023.

Therefore, the penetration of eCommerce in this country is undoubtedly significant, since, according to the study “X-ray of eCommerce in Chile”, drafted by GfK and Mercado Libre, 9 out of 10 Chileans affirm they have purchased online in recent months. And every day the same day and next day delivery methods gain more ground, which represents a major challenge for operators wishing to stand at the forefront of market trends.

Relevant data that stress the need for industries to implement timely logistics and technological solutions for correct and efficient management that allow them to meet the needs of customers, whether they are companies or individuals, as pivotal to the business’s prosperity.

Therefore, marketplaces, online companies and retailers in general who want to carry out cross border eCommerce operations and market their products both inside and outside their borders, require partners who know the peculiarities of the different markets, the requirements of international trade and who offer comprehensive, scalable solutions adapted to each country. Only then will they be able to efficiently manage their supply chain for more streamlined procedures and a smoother service. An even greater need when production is offshored, especially if problems such as shortages, surcharges or restrictions on customs, amongst others, are to be avoided.

This scenario has led companies like Logisfashion, with wide-ranging experience in this market, to commit heavily to Chile with flexible and end-to-end value services that allow us to offer everything the Chilean supply chain needs: from services at origin, forwarding and customs, through intralogistics, fulfilment e-commerce or VAS, to delivery to the end customer and returns.

That is why we have now launched new divisions such as International Transport and Last Mile, which complete the supply chain cycle to offer customers all services from one operator.

Backing progress in the Chilean market

Logisfashion began its operations in Chile with a subsidiary in 2017, when the construction of a cutting-edge technological mega-project for the South American retailer Casaldeas commenced, featuring a warehouse measuring 14,500 m² in Pudahuel and flagship modern facilities to host the logistics operation for its stores.

Since then, progress and growth have been constant. In 2020, we opened the second warehouse operated by the subsidiary and at the end of 2021 a new centre in Miraflores (Pudahuel, Santiago), with an operating area of 11,000m2, 8,000 pallet positions, product area on the floor, reception areas, order preparation, packaging, added value and dispatch, in addition to a security system of cameras by dock and access control. This has allowed us to operate for two new clients, Fardo.cl and Ellus, who have joined the more than 20 clients we already worked with at the time.

Today, thanks to our ability to understand the idiosyncrasies of Chilean retailers and our expertise in eCommerce and international operations, we have a total of 4 omnichannel centres with more than 35,000m2, which provide service to important fashion and lifestyle brands (cosmetics, perfumery, jewellery and costume jewellery, home, electronics or sex wellness, amongst other sectors).

Turning to the future,

Our bolstered position in the Chilean market is completed by our commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technological tools, in order to offer our customers the traceability and visibility of their operations. Operational readiness and flexibility are key elements in this market, thus it is necessary to manage the chains from predictability, relying on digitisation and data, meaning backing the right technological tools is essential.

Yet there is even more, since the importance of Chile is reflected in our investment plans in the country, which result in the opening in 2023 of a large logistics hub in Santiago, where up to 10,000 daily orders can be prepared and dispatched.

Throughout 2022, we plan to double our sales to reach 10 million euros, a great challenge that demonstrates our consolidation in the Chilean market.

Ultimately, our goal is to offer our customers in Chile omnichannel solutions so that retailers and brands reach their customers with a quality, streamlined and effective service.
